East Greenwich Requires Developers to Make 15% of Homes Affordable

East Greenwich requires developers to make 15% of all homes in a subdivision "affordable" or pay a fee of $200,000 to the town's Affordable Housing Trust Fund instead of building these required units.  Imagine the shock of an East Greenwich resident when the town assessed her a $30,000 fee when she submitted plans to build a single family home for herself on a lot that she already owns. Do you think this is fair?  Could this happen in your town or city?
